The toonie, the $2 Canadian coin has been in circulation for 13 years now. Time flies, I remember the first time I saw it was at my friend’s grandparents’ house. For some reason, it took me 13 years to do this.

It is against the law to deliberately attempt to separate a toonie. Defacing coin currency is a summary offense under the Canadian Criminal Code, section 456.

Oops, my finger slipped, I swear.

Christmas is two days away, I didn’t buy anyone anything and feel great. I’m looking forward to spending Christmas Eve with friends watching movies and Christmas Day with my family. Adam showed up at my house tonight with a present for me, I had no idea what he was going to give me. He gave me a record I’d been pestering him about for several months, Adam rules. I’m gonna miss that guy.

Here I am, fucked up from working midnights and still trying to have a social life. It’s around 7:30am and my sleeping pattern in the last 24 hours was like:

Wake up at 9am
Have a nap at 6pm until 8:30pm
Go to bed again at 4am
Wake up at 7am

This sucks, the heat in my house died, apparently it won’t be fixed until Wednesday, by then I’ll be on my way to Chicago, great. It’s probably about 10 degrees in my house, luckily I have a warm blanket. Our landlord’s wife brought us two space heaters to deal with this, Erik plugged one in and it killed the power in his half of the house. We don’t have access to the basement so he had to call her back up and get her to flip the breaker back on.

Whatever, in three days I’ll be on the way to Chicago, I won’t be here for six days. I like getting away, my job sucks, I have very few good friends I see often and Chicago is beautiful. I managed to score free tickets to Shedd Aquarium for a friend and I on Saturday if she doesn’t bail, and Saturday night I’m going to go see Boris.

Back to my igloo I guess to try and catch more sleep.

Get your kicks on Hwy. 69

Yesterday Kyle and I went to Sudbury to see Vicious Cycle’s first show in over a year. On the way there we stopeed at this abandoned Gas Station/Pizzeria/Hotel? It’s on Highway 69, a route that seems notorious for abandoned buildings, maybe because there’s no real civilization between Parry Sound and Sudbury, spare a couple small villages.

This place caught my eye last year around this time because the front door has this little guy in a suit with a disco ball for a head pasted to it.

Here are some pictures from the building, inside and out, and a couple of the other random buildings in the back (I’m pretty sure they were just rooms that truckers could rent, one was basically about the size of an average garden shed.) It was a really strange place and pretty creepy.

I left my disco ball headed friend with a nice little message and we were on our way It was a pretty rad place, really creepy but most abandoned buildings are. I’m guessing by a calendar I found in the place that it was abandoned in 1996. I’d like to go back with a flashlight and check out the basement/other half of the main floor. Someday.
