…still exists.

elbartoSaw this gem on the drive home from work, almost crashed my car because I was so excited. Hopefully there’s more of this in town. I drove home, grabbed my camera and drove back to get a picture. I’m so easily amused.

Now, we’re going to make a new rule. When you come in here and you hear me typing or whether you DON’T hear me typing, or whatever the FUCK you hear me doing; when I’m in here, it means that I am working, THAT means don’t come in. Now, do you think you can handle that?

Last night Wayfarer played in St. Catharines with Good Luck, Failures Union and the Atlantic. All fantastic bands who you should check out. Anyways, we showed up mega-early and were hanging out in the back of the venue and I found this typewriter. It was huge and I couldn’t figure out how to get it to work, then Timur (the guy putting on the show) came back and told me there was another one downstairs and that I could have it if I wanted, AWESOME.

Since I don’t own a printer and neither does anyone in my house, I’ve decided I’m going to type up all of the recipes for my zine on this little guy. Should get annoying after the first 15 minutes but it’ll look punk, and that’s all that matters really.

If you are reading this and are vegan, or good at making some sort of vegan dish, get at me, I need a few more recipes. Sidenote, I suck for reusing episodes for my screencaps but I watched the Shining earlier this week.fg_119

Eating Glass – Radio Super Retards

We played on Equalizing Distort last Sunday. It was my first time being at the studio and it’s a pretty cool set up they’ve got there. We solidified the fact that we’re the worst band to interview but our live set sounded better than most of our recordings. If you’re interested, you can download most of the set and the interview here – http://www.sendspace.com/file/413uzh

Here are a few pictures from the set taken by Stephen. Support Equalizing Distort, it  broadcasts every Sunday at 10pm on CIUT Toronto (89.5fm) and streams online at http://www.ciut.fm/

Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie

My first attempt at a pie went pretty well. Not exactly the best LOOKING food I’ve made but it tastes as good as DQ ice cream cake, if not better. For the crust I basically just made a bunch of peanut butter cookie batter and dropped it into a pie tin. The result was caramelized peanut butter and sugar on the underside of the pie (see pictures).

Let’s Bake Some Cookies For The Boys

Tried baking out for the first time today, I didn’t bring any food to work last night because I’m a moron so I just spent a good chunk of time thinking of foods I want to try and make and I decided I really wanted cookies. Crustina gave me a foolproof peanut butter cookie recipe so I was set. They turned out moderately well.

I didn’t realize you only needed to make small balls of dough to get decent sized cookies so it ended up being almost one big cookie when a bunch of them fused together, but Kevin and Erik both thought they were at least pretty alright and I thought they were good. I couldn’t find the brown sugar so I subbed 1/2 cup brown sugar with 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup peanut butter. HEAVY.

So the Veganator mission was a great success, they ruled, so did the fries and frosty. Happy valentines day. I love myself more than you love your significant other, fuck you.

The Mailman Cometh/Get Quiet/Life Is Good

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything of any sort of substance here. Today will be no different but there’ll actually be a little bit to read when you get back from your day in paradise.

First off, being an expert in the art of frivolous spending, I’m going to start posting about everything that comes in the mail that is of any interest. Unfortunately, my eBay and PayPal are still tied to my father’s house so it won’t necessarily be in real time but you can see the cool shit I’m blowing money on soon after I do which is usually a few days after my dad asks himself “what the fuck does he keep buying from Japan” and other concerned questions.

Onto Japan and this dude I keep winning records from, unfortunately this guy is some sort of “business man” so he won’t cut me any “deals” on multiple records even though I’m a continuing customer. Today I received an OG copy of Anthem For A New Tomorrow by Screeching Weasel and my favourite Old Man Gloom album, Christmas.dsc00806

On the subject of records, last night Kyle came over and we tackled most of my record collection and gave my How’s Your Edge a serious update. Still missing about 1/3 of my 12″s but that’s for another day and another round of slurpees I guess. For the record, my edge is strong and so is Kyle’s, whether he’d like to admit it or not.

Another couple little items that have fallen into my lap are these two little noisemakers:dsc00814

That’s a Riviera 725 25watt tube amp and a gutted Trace Elliot boxer combo that now acts as a single 12″ speaker cabinet. Neither of which are mine right now, well the cab might be, my dad was just like “hey do you want that single 12″ cabinet, it’s sitting in the back of my trunk. The Riviera is something I’m just testing out to see if I like it. Wayfarer isn’t quite as loud as some of my other bands so using a high wattage amp is pretty much useless because those sort of things sound no good with the volume at 1. Anyways, I’ll be trying the head out for the first time this weekend with Wayfarer in London. I’ll report back to myself and you, Derrick, the listener with my thoughts and feelings. It’ll probably be good and that means we’ll have to get together and get sad (dad).

The show looks like this:feb13flyersmallyu9

Pretty cool if you ask me. That about wraps it up for today. Happy 11 weeks to me and my baby (see picture below.) I got a chest infection last week and as a result I sound like I’m going through puberty again, maybe that’ll help it grow. I’m pathetic and need better hobbies than growing mustaches put to shame by 13 year oldsdsc00810

fg_052If you want Johnny Cakes, you’re going to have to grow a better mustache than that.

Also my trendy hip douchebag friends in the Decay started a blog so check it out if you want to read what the best punk band in Ontario is thinking about. They put up three new songs on their myspace that put to shame your favourite local bands, fight me.

More Food

Nothing new and exciting this week, except I found vegan samosas that are fist sized and cost $1 at the Hasty Market downtown. I’ve ate 16 since Friday, good/bad times.

dsc00742dsc00744

Also, my dad is still cooler than your dad, even if the guitarist in his band is a wank and thinks Neil Young songs should be played as if he were Peter Frampton.

Again, I’m playing my first show with Wayfarer this weekend, it’s in Kitchener and all the rest of the details are on this flyer:

Oh yeah, and someone found my blog the other day with the keywords “blow job alleyway”. I hope they found what they were looking for.

Portrait of an Ass-Grabber

dsc00736By Jason O’Young

Wayfarer recorded four tracks today, we thought it was going to take two days but we got it all wrapped up in about 5 hours. My bass cab is being sketchy so my tone is kind of dull on the recording, oh well. My dad’s band is playing in Cambridge tonight, I’ll probably check it out because he’s the man.

The Good Life

I’m keeping busy, everything is good in my life right now. Lesson here, stay busy, stay happy.

I’m almost finished my third book in the first month of this year which is more than I’ve read in the past few. Kayla visited for a while and left me with a couple books to borrow and Derrick, being the best dude ever, bought me the Master of Reality book I’ve mentioned a few times since I found out about it, so hopefully this whole reading thing continues. It’s nice being paid to read at work.

Got a whole bunch of cool stuff this week, when Kayla came she brought a whole bunch of clothes with her, she rules, a lot. After the show on Wednesday we got vegan nachos from Sneaky Dee’s, another one of the great things in life.dsc00722

Also picked up some new records:dsc007312
Replaced the Swarm 7″ I owned for about 2 hours two Fridays ago that someone decided should be theirs.

Being in two bands again, good feeling. I’ve got something going on for the next four weeks musically, it’s nice to be playing music so consistantly. This weekend Wayfarer is recording with Jay O’Young (edge), next weekend we’re playing in Kitchener, February 8th Eating Glass is playing at Adrift and then February 13th Wayfarer is in London. Come out to that Eating Glass show, Metz and Our Father are both releasing new 7″s that night. Try to get as drunk as the rest of my band or try to be as straight edge as me. Unfortunately our weekend play date with Surroundings in America has been delayed until April, hopefully that comes relatively quickly. Also hoping the snow goes away soon too, I just want to ride my bike.fg_0921
