I lost my wallet sometime last week and found it a few minutes ago while looking for my expired license to use as ID to get across the border. Yeah, that’s right, I found my wallet looking for my ID that was replacing the ID in the wallet. I guess losing it and finding it a week later wasn’t that bad, I got a new birth certificate and a new band card, but my credit card is cancelled so I’m living off of three dollars until Friday. Oh well, it’s a guaranteed good time. Gotta finish packing, work three hours then pick up Kyle. After that it’s off to St. Catherines to pick up Derrick and Joe, then to Buffalo.

So Jeff Mangum performed a Neutral Milk Hotel for the first time in around 10 years a few weeks ago. He performed Engine along with Julian Koster. Hopefully something more comes of this, they’ve done it at at least three of the Elephant Six Holiday Surprise shows. There were a couple more videos of this, but the Chicago one was pretty stupid, the room was so loud, this is definitely an atmosphere I would think should happen at one of the first “Neutral Milk Hotel” performances in ten years, complete silence.

Derrick leaves home to paint the house red.

My friend Derrick likes the Red House Painters a lot. So much so that he started a blog based entirely about them. They’re a great band and he’s a great writer so you should check it out. Even though I’m pretty sure we’re the only ones who read eachother’s blogs. Anyways – http://dunwoodyway.wordpress.com – check it out, fall in love (with him and the Red House Painters.)

In the spirit of favourite bands I decided to put together a mix of a bunch of live songs I have of one of my favourite bands, the Mountain Goats. These are various songs spanning through several years and albums, some songs unreleased, some that’ll make you chuckle and others that will make you bum out. Derrick, since you’re the only one reading this, check it out. I didn’t want to make it drag on forever so it’s 13 songs, a little over 30 minutes. Get it

Blah blah blah….

If you’re reading my blog and you’re not Derrick and you’re not a wang, check it out. If you’re a wang, don’t bother, I’m petty and don’t like when people I dislike like things that I like. PS. Amps aren’t cool, fuck off.

Get your kicks on Hwy. 69

Yesterday Kyle and I went to Sudbury to see Vicious Cycle’s first show in over a year. On the way there we stopeed at this abandoned Gas Station/Pizzeria/Hotel? It’s on Highway 69, a route that seems notorious for abandoned buildings, maybe because there’s no real civilization between Parry Sound and Sudbury, spare a couple small villages.

This place caught my eye last year around this time because the front door has this little guy in a suit with a disco ball for a head pasted to it.

Here are some pictures from the building, inside and out, and a couple of the other random buildings in the back (I’m pretty sure they were just rooms that truckers could rent, one was basically about the size of an average garden shed.) It was a really strange place and pretty creepy.

I left my disco ball headed friend with a nice little message and we were on our way It was a pretty rad place, really creepy but most abandoned buildings are. I’m guessing by a calendar I found in the place that it was abandoned in 1996. I’d like to go back with a flashlight and check out the basement/other half of the main floor. Someday.
